Book Editing
Editing runs in three passes, and you can take all of them or only the one your book actually needs. Developmental editing deals with the larger problems, such as a chapter that runs long, an argument that loses its thread, or a character who stops behaving like himself in the third act. Line editing works at sentence level on rhythm, repetition, and clarity. Proofreading is the final sweep for spelling, punctuation, and consistency before the file locks.
Everything comes back to you tracked, so you can see each change and accept or reject it yourself. Your editor also sends an editorial letter that explains the reasoning behind the bigger suggestions, and you get a call afterward to work through anything you disagree with.
